Waterproof Blanket FAQ

Find concise answers about waterproof blanket use, care, sizing, materials and the difference between Flannel and Sherpa.

What is a waterproof blanket?

A waterproof blanket is a soft blanket with a hidden TPU layer that helps block liquid from passing through the main surface during everyday use. It can be used on beds, sofas, pet areas and car seats.

Is a waterproof blanket the same as a mattress protector?

No. A waterproof blanket is a removable top layer you can use on beds, sofas, pet areas and in cars. A mattress protector is mainly designed to protect a mattress. Many people use both together when they want mattress protection underneath and removable surface protection on top.

Can I use a waterproof blanket on a sofa?

Yes. It works well as a washable layer on sofas, chairs and other everyday seating when you want soft coverage that is easy to move and reposition.

Can I use it for pets?

Yes. Many customers use waterproof blankets for pet beds, sofas, car rides and other spots where they want a soft protective layer that can be washed after use.

Can I use it in a car?

Yes. A waterproof blanket can be useful on car seats or back seats when you want portable coverage that is easy to remove and wash.

Which is better, Flannel or Sherpa?

Neither is better for everyone. Flannel has a smoother, lighter fleece feel, while Sherpa feels warmer and plusher. Both styles are reversible, washable and made with a hidden waterproof TPU layer.

What size waterproof blanket should I choose?

Measure the surface you want to cover, then choose the size that gives you enough usable coverage. If you are between sizes, going larger usually gives you more flexibility. You can compare sizes on the Bedding Aid Size Guide.

How do I wash a waterproof blanket?

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with mild detergent. Bedding Aid Care Instructions also recommend avoiding bleach, fabric softener, ironing, dry cleaning and high heat.

Can I put it in the dryer?

Yes, if needed, tumble dry on low. Air drying is the gentlest option, and high heat should be avoided because it can affect the waterproof TPU layer over time.

What is the waterproof layer made of?

The waterproof layer is a thin TPU membrane placed between the soft outer fabric layers.

Is a waterproof blanket absorbent?

Not exactly. Waterproof means helping block liquid from passing through the blanket. Absorbent means the fabric can hold some liquid on or within the surface layers. A blanket can have some surface absorbency without that meaning total protection in every situation.

Can liquid leak through the edges?

Liquid can move differently near seams or edges depending on how much is applied, how quickly it is cleaned up and how the blanket is positioned. Waterproof does not mean every spill behaves the same in every situation.
